Another great course!

10 students descended on Lewisham in SE London recently for a day learning the basics of conducting (the course is called Foundation 1). They came from Ireland, Denmark, Bristol, Newmarket, and various bits of London. As well as hailing from a variety of places they also were of a variety of ages, spanning roughly 17 - 80 years old! Instruction followed on baton holding, how to beat common time patterns (2, 3 and 4), how to start and stop the music, how to get louder/softer or faster/slower, and how to give a legato or staccato feel. With a potted history of conducting and the gruelling requirement to conduct the piano in a short piece in 2 and then in 3 completed a tiring but very rewarding day. On and upwards to Foundation 2!
