Masterworks Unwrapped

Masterworks Unwrapped is a series of online Zoom sessions
delving into some great works of classical music

NB: All sessions are on Tuesdays 7.30-9.30pm (London, UK)

7 Sep: Handel, Messiah

5 Oct: The music of Alma Mahler

2 Nov: Beethoven, Symphony No.9

7 Dec: Debussy, La Mer

NB1: If you would like to attend but can't do so, please sign up as normal: everyone signed up will receive a link to that session's recording a few days later.

NB2: Online content to complement recordings (pictures, music examples etc) is available here

NB3: Here is a list of my recommended recordings (for sessions on specific works)

I will paint a picture of the background to the music - including, as appropriate, looking into the composer's life and the social context of the day - and will delve into the music itself to see what makes it tick. Excerpts will be played to illustrate my thoughts, plus the music will be played in its entirety (where relevant and where possible). There will be the opportunity to ask questions. No musical expertise will be assumed, but it would be worth doing the preparation of listening to the music in advance.

An individual session costs £13; all 4 for £50.  Use the PayPal button below to make your choice and pay the relevant amount. You don't need a PayPal account to do this.

The day before each meeting you will receive a Zoom link (please check your junk mailbox if necessary). You just need to click that link and follow any instructions. Any other technical things will be explained at the start of each session.

I also run sessions for conductors (or those who are interested in conducting). These are on Friday evenings. For details:

If you've not used Zoom before click the link 5/10 minutes before the session start time as your computer (or tablet or phone) will need a little time to install the software to enable you to join (follow the prompts that you get to effect that installation).  Finally you will receive the message 'Please wait, the meeting host will let you in soon'. Please note that you don't need to sign up for a Zoom account.
